About Wiringly
I started building Wiringly because using a complex CAD tool to design a simple harness takes way too much time. And Excel is too simple because it doesn't allow for real structural design. I believe a design tool should help make the build faster, not slower. Generating documentation is also important—it's hard to remember what you did months later. Reverse engineering your own work when problems occur is just frustrating.
The goal was to create a tool that is easy to use and makes the design process fast and efficient, without a steep learning curve.
With my background in motorsports, the program is made for enthusiasts, DIY tuners, and custom shops who want to focus on building, not paperwork. Currently, the library is focused on ECUs, sensors, and connectors, but I'm constantly adding more components to make it more flexible.
Focus on the Build
The main idea is to help you create a harness without spending weeks learning the software. You should spend your time on the design and manufacturing, not figuring out the program. The software should work for you, not the other way around.
How the Library Works
The Component Library is the core of the program. Once you fill out the component data properly, it helps with every design you do after that. You won't need to go through pin orders and manuals every time you make a connection.
If you want to use your own wire colors for a component that is already in the library, just copy it, change the colors to the ones you prefer, and continue. It will remember your favorite colors from then on. You can also browse our public Component Library Pinouts to see preconfigured components and layout structures.
Saving Time with Automation
Why do it by hand when you can automate it?
- Schematics: Your wiring diagram builds itself as you connect components. The canvas and schematic follow each other automatically—update one and everything updates.
- Smart Colors: The system suggests wire colors based on your ECU data. You can use the manufacturer defaults or set your own.
- Wire Tables: This shows exactly where every wire goes. It tells you the length you need and where to connect them. It’s great for getting your wire lengths right and for documenting the build.
- Parts List (BOM): Get a list of connectors, pins, and wires needed. Always double-check the BOM before ordering—it's a tool to help you start, but you are responsible for the final order.
1:1 Formboard Layout
To help with the actual build, use the Generate Formboard function. It creates a 1:1 scale image that you can print, tape to your workbench, and use as a template. You'll have every connector pinout, wire color, and bundle length right there. Just build the harness directly on top of the printed layout.
